Nick Jensen

This is Nick Jensen, sophomore defenseman for St. Cloud State University. He was also the Detroit Red Wing’s fifth pick (150th overall) in the 2009 NHL draft.

According to RedWingsCentral.com, he is the 14th best prospect of the Red Wings. He finished the night with two assists and a +2 rating.

As a young player, it was nice to see him jump into the play with confidence – he is very offensive and has the speed and hands to back it up. In the first few minutes alone, he was cycling behind the net while St. Cloud State dominated the play. In addition, he picked up one of his two assists on the powerplay where he made crisp and accurate passes.

Along with his offensive tendencies, he also played well defensively. However, we’ll see how he does tomorrow night because there were a few times where he pinched in and instead, should have played conservative. When not caught pinching in, I thought he did an excellent job defending.

All in all, I am very impressed with Jensen. He played a very good game in many aspects tonight. And as a sophomore, he has plenty of potential and time to grow into a quick, smart, and offensive-minded defenseman.
